ROPA METHOD
The ROPA method (Reception of the Partner's Eggs) is a shared reproduction technique. It is an in vitro fertilization procedure involving both women and is performed using donated sperm.
In this case, one woman provides the eggs while the other receives the embryos and carries the pregnancy. It is important to evaluate both women beforehand, ensuring that the egg-donating woman has a good ovarian reserve (meaning a sufficient number of follicles or eggs in her ovaries) and that the woman carrying the pregnancy has a healthy uterus and ovaries.
The procedure begins with hormonal stimulation of the ovaries for two weeks and continues with the retrieval of mature eggs under sedation.
Then these eggs are taken to the laboratory and fertilized with sperm from the previously selected donor.
Once fertilization occurs, embryonic division is observed for 3 to 5 days. The developed embryo is then transferred vaginally into the uterus of the woman who will carry the pregnancy, with the expectation that it will implant and initiate gestation.

Frequently Asked Questions
about ROPA
1. What is the ROPA method and who is it intended for?
It is an in vitro fertilization technique in which both women in a same-sex female couple actively participate: one provides the eggs, and the other carries the pregnancy.
2. What requirements must both women meet to undergo the ROPA method?
The woman who donates the eggs must have a good ovarian reserve, and the one who will carry the pregnancy must have a healthy uterus and ovaries.
3. How does the ovarian stimulation process work in the ROPA method?
The woman who provides the eggs receives subcutaneous hormones for two weeks to stimulate her ovaries. Then, the mature eggs are extracted under sedation.
4. How are fertilization and embryo transfer carried out?
The retrieved eggs are fertilized in the laboratory with donor sperm. After 3 to 5 days of embryonic development, an embryo is transferred into the recipient partner’s uterus through the vaginal route.
5. What is expected after the embryo transfer?
That the embryo attaches to the endometrium and a normal pregnancy begins.
